The 2007 Florida Bugaboo (Scrub) Fire

The Bugaboo Scrub Fire was a fire that raged from April to June 2007, and ultimately became the largest fire in both Florida and Georgia.

When did the wildfire happen, and when did it end?    The wild fire happened on April 16, 2007.  It lasted for about 3 months, and ended in June.

Where did the fire originate, and how did it start?  The fire originated in Okefenokee Swamp, Georgia and slowly moved down to Florida. It started in when lightning hit a tree which caused the tree to fall on a power line, sparking a fire.

What was the max intensity?  It burned a total of 600,000 acres, and had 50 foot flames!  725 homes were  forced to be evacuated, and 350 were threatened in the fire.

Who suffered?   Georgia was burned along with a large portion of Florida,

How much money was lost by the disaster?   Over $14 million!

Were any animals affected from Bugaboo?   Bears and some birds were affected by the heavy smoke.

Who provided relief?    Thanks to the generous FEMA, Red Cross, and the FDOF, victims were relieved and had food, shelter, and clothing.

Why is the Bugaboo Wildfire so unique?   It burned for two months, and in two different states.  It was also deemed the largest wildfire in Florida history.

It ranked as the worst fire in Georgia and Florida’s history.

Smoke was so bad you could see it on satellite, and spread to Alabama and some parts of Mississippi.

The fire destroyed hundreds of homes and people were forced to evacuate.
